Telederm - Remote dermatological assessment

To enhance remote medical consultations using video conferencing, InfoDisp is developing cameras and special lighting systems for application areas such as dermatology and diabetes. InfoDisp has benefited from working in co-operation with organisations such as BT and The Centre for Health Informatics at The University of Wales, Aberystwyth.

A typical system comprises:

bulletRing illuminator attached to the camera lens providing even and consistent light of a colour temperature optimised in consultation with dermatologists
bulletCamera base incorporating driver electronics
bulletDesk top power & interface unit complete with a 5 m cable for connection to the camera base
bulletAudio & video leads, together with adapter, for connection between the desk unit and the video-conferencing terminal

Telederm Camera

The arrangement illustrated has been used successfully on many dermatology trials. However, several alternative options are available taking account of higher resolution, but significantly more expensive, camera technology or the new generation of digital cameras.
